Neuton Electric Mower |

Going Green Lawn Care Now that summer has officially kicked off, many will be toiling for hours on their lawns trying to out do their neighbor. But loud mowers that belch smoke and eat gas are not fun. I recently purchased the Neuton lawnmower that runs off a rechargeable battery, and it makes mowing a breeze. The Neuton lawnmower is a great product for those who are frustrated with the traditional walk behind mower. While other walk behind mowers require you to pull a cord, the Neuton simply requires the insertion of a safety key, visualizing a green light, and then holding down on the handlebar. With the growing gas prices, and messy mixing of oil that may be required for some mowers, the Neuton uses a large rechargeable battery that has no mess at all. There are other electric mowers on the market, but those usually require a long extension cord, which could present a hazard if one is not careful. The battery weighs around 10 pounds, and unlike other rechargeable batteries, it can be plugged in for long periods of time, and does not have to be completely drained to recharge. With a charge of about one hour, you will have plenty of time to mow a small to mid-sized lawn. At the Digital Media Net Central Division, I can mow the lawn in about 30 minutes, which means I will never need to worry about running out of power. For someone who wants to go green, not having all the smoke and oil in the air is a plus. I couldn’t find any information on the life of the battery, but one downside is it will eventually need to be disposed of properly. Because the Neuton doesn’t have a combustion engine, it is incredibly lightweight. This is especially nice for those needing to mow the side of a hill as you won’t be burdened with the weight of other mowers. Another plus for the mower is in how quiet it is. The company claims it is 1/10 th the noise of a regular mower and I believe it. The other day, while using the Neuton, I could hear another push mower start up – three houses down! If you are a good neighbor, you don’t want to disturb the neighborhood at 7:00 on a Sunday morning with the loud sound of those other mowers. I feel confident that all of the neighbors within earshot of our yard will sleep comfortably and not even know yard work is being done. The mower drop ships in a large box, which means you need to assemble it yourself. The organization of the manual allows for easy learning on how to use the mower, and the assembly is quick and simple. After mowing the lawn, most of us will need to do a little trimming or edging. You can purchase the Neuton with an optional accessory pack that includes an attachable trimmer. This is very cool. You simply insert the trimmer in the front of the mower; adjust the height of the mower deck, flip a switch and you are on your way. The trimmer can be rotated 45 or 90 degrees for edging and trimming around trees, or horizontal for other trimming. In addition to the trimmer, the accessory package includes a second blade to turn the unit into a mulching mower, a bag attachment, an additional battery, and more. The accessory option is the way to go for those considering this electronic product. I really like the handle because it is easily adjustable for different heights, and can be folded over for storing. The only downside for going green and helping the environment is the extra cost. Currently the mower (with accessory option) sells for $528, close to $100 more than a gas mower. But if you consider the lifecycle of the mower, you could easily spend more than that in gas over a five year period.
