Adobe Production Studio available on Mac and Windows
Today Adobe Systems announced the next release of Adobe Production Studio would be going cross platform for all applications. Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator have been available on the Macintosh platform for years, but now Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Encore and Adobe Soundbooth will be making the migration as well.
For fans of the Mac and Adobe Premiere, this announcement is a welcome return. In fact, the entire Production Studio will be a huge competitor for Apple ?s Final Cut Studio. While this is not the first time Adobe has had a non-linear editing application on the Mac, Premiere Pro is a brand new incarnation of the application rebuilt from the ground up. Version 2.0 of Adobe Premiere Pro is a solid editing application for the Windows platform and has improved greatly over the years.
This announcement is not a huge surprise for users of the Adobe applications has the company has been dropping subtle hints for the last year or so in interviews and beta releases of applications like Soundbooth. In a prepared statement, John Loiacono, senior vice president of Creative Solutions Business Unit at Adobe said, ?Our customers wanted all the components in Adobe Production Studio to be available on both the Macintosh and Windows platforms. We listened and believe that an innovative new cross-platform video suite, anchored by powerhouse releases of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects, will really shake up the industry.”
After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator will continue to be a Universal Binary release, which mean pre-Intel based Mac users will continue to use the application. However, Premiere Pro, Encore and Soundbooth will only be available for Intel based systems. All applications will be available on Windows as well.
In case you are not familiar with each application that makes up the video production core:
- Adobe Premiere Pro ? non-linear editing system
- Adobe After Effects ? compositing, effects and animation application
- Adobe Encore ? DVD creation and authoring
- Adobe Soundbooth ? audio editing and sweetening
In addition to Photoshop and Illustrator, users will be able to use Dynamic Link to quickly move and share content between applications.
Adobe plans to demonstrate the Adobe Production Studio during Macworld 2007 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco (Jan 9-12) in Booth 901. The Adobe Production Studio will be released mid-2007, which according to my calendar, should be June/July. Adobe did not announce a price at this time, however, the current Production Studio Premium is $1699.
Steve Kilisky from Adobe has offered up his views on the announcement at his blog.
